GEEK FEST Begins...Now

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Geek Fest. My name is Bella Aire, and I am the chief reviewer for the Not So Closet Geeks (NSCGs).

The idea for Geek Fest began around the time I came up with a name for my site back in the summer of '08. The Not So Closet Geeks as a name came to me when I was brainstorming, and I liked the way it sounded. I loved being a geek, and the name stood out to me. I knew I wanted to celebrate the geekdom by collecting geek-related author guest blogs and sharing them with our readers all during a short time period while hosting contests.The NSCG site took awhile to start up, but finally, around November, my fellow geeks and I began to review more regularly. As time passed, my idea for Geek Fest became more definite. I was indirectly inspired by other themed weeks like those done by Becky's Book Reviews, Book Chic, Reviewer X, and many more. I finally settled for March and started contacting authors. In addition, I decided to include other bloggers in my little event. After all, if they review books for fun, they have to be able to relate to atleast a bit of geekiness, right?

The response was even better than I had imagined. Guest blogs flew in describing every kind of geekiness known to mankind. Book contests were planned out.

I've grown more and more excited about this event. Being a geek has done so much for me. It has given me some amazingly geeky friends, an above average verbal score, and an opportunity to connect with readers and writers all over the world. I see no shame in being a geek. Instead I see a word that describes a vast group of passionate people, dedicated to honing their area of geekiness, not afraid share their loves with the world.

Hopefully by the end of Geek Fest, any and all who have ever felt hurt or embarrassed by the geek label will see the potential in the word geek- the compliment it can be.
